In the modern world, there is an increasing emphasis on the development of technology which causes changes in the work of organization. The use of technology in sales and distribution can lead to easier resource discovery and reduction of production costs, but also to employee layoffs. Software is the main technological component of modern business. It is defined as "program support" (Mihaljević, 2006: 42) and includes all programs that manage the computer. Although using software in business may be an advantage, its improper use may endanger the work of a company. Therefore, lack of knowledge is a major problem in using new technologies, which leads to the need for investing in business intelligence. Business intelligence includes methods that enable using information that an organization owns for better insight into the nature of business and for making quality business decisions (Čerić, 2004 cited in Morožin, 2017:4) In order for the information systems to be useful for business improvement, it is important to use them to create benefits and investments that would lead to an increased profit of the organization. The development of technology and software has also led to changes in the habits and behavior of consumers who are increasingly buying through Internet commerce, television, and other similar distribution channels. Such a Western trend in Croatia comes with a certain time lag, given that there is only one company that allows shopping through online commerce (Franjković et al.). Knowing and investing in technology development, especially software, is essential to meet more demanding customers, so the purpose of this paper is to determine how software development can affect the work of organization.
