Abstract
Prema definiciji Međunarodnog monetarnog fonda: međunarodne pričuve su inozemna imovina koja je pod kontrolom i na raspolaganju monetarne vlasti u svrhu izravnog financiranja neravnoteže u bilanci plaćanja te neizravnog reguliranja neravnoteže putem intervencija na deviznom tržištu radi utjecaja na tečaj te u ostale svrhe. Struktura međunarodnih pričuva sastoji se od deviznih rezervi, rezervnog položaja u MMF-u, posebnih prava vučenja, zlata te ostalih rezervi. Tematsko područje ovog rada obrađuje međunarodne pričuve, ali osim toga rad će obuhvatiti i ulogu monetarne politike i njezine instrumente s posebnim naglaskom na deviznu politiku, kako bi čitatelj jasnije i bolje razumio svrhu držanja međunarodnih pričuva. Istraživačko područje ovoga rada obuhvaća grupu zemalja koje pripadaju istom geografskom području - europski Mediteran. Napravljena je komparativna analiza visine i strukture njihovih međunarodnih pričuva u vremenskom razdoblju od 2015. do 2017. godine. Također, istražena je zastupljenost zlata u strukturi pričuva te povezanost međunarodnih pričuva s makroekonomskim i demografskim obilježjima zemalja.
Abstract (english)
According to the definition of the International Monetary Fund: international reserves are foreign assets that are under the control and at the disposal of monetary authorities for the purpose of directly financing imbalances in the balance of payments and indirectly regulating imbalances through foreign exchange market interventions to influence the exchange rate and for other purposes. The structure of international reserves consists of foreign reserves, reserve position in the IMF, special drawing rights, gold and other reserves. The thematic area of this paper deals with international reserves, but in addition the paper will cover the role of monetary policy and its instruments with particular emphasis on foreign exchange policy, so that the reader can understand more clearly the purpose of holding international reserves. The research area of this paper covers a group of countries belonging to the same geographical area - the European Mediterranean. A comparative analysis was made of the height and structure of their international reserves in the period from 2015 to 2017. Also, the presence of gold in the structure of reserves and the correlation of international reserves with the macroeconomic and demographic characteristics of countries were investigated.
