Regional competitiveness is one of the central concepts of economic and regional policy of the national and regional economy. There is a whole range of discussions about regional competitiveness and elements that affect the results of regional competitiveness. We can observe regional competitiveness through the region's ability to compete with other regions. When considering the programs and strategies of cities (municipality) and regions, we can conclude that the makers of public (regional) policies are aware of the importance of competitiveness. Increasing awareness of the constant improvement of the competitiveness of a given area creates a positive effect on the entire society and the constant competition stimulates continuous efforts in overcoming the competition, and the result is a more developed city / region. In the Republic of Croatia there are disparities in the development of regions, which requires significant efforts to bring convergence of the region. For the sake of big disparities, there is a need to improve regional competitiveness. Thus, one of the most underdeveloped regions (according to the regional competitiveness and development index) are in the Slavonian County. The Regional Competitiveness Index and Development Index is an indicator for the regions to compare, but also to confirm the impact of their policies with other (more successful) regions. Also by observing the index of a particular region we can obtain data on the demographic, economic and investment profile of the observed region.
