According to Barringer and Ireland (2010), authors of the book Entrepreneurship – Successfully Launching New Ventures published in 2010, successful entrepreneurs have common characteristics, properties, skills and behavior. Characteristics describe innovation, reasonable risk-taking, hard work, goal setting, responsibility and self-confidence. Entrepreneurial skills describe conflict management, business networking, leadership and motivating others. As a final part of this work, the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs relate to passion for the job, focus on the product / customer, perseverance and implementation. History has documented that for many enterprises hard work and devotion of their owner was not enough to thrive, those businesses had big troubles and some have even failed due to owner’s persistence on ideas that couldn’t survive on market and thus result in successful enterprise. In this work different research methods are used –secondary research using available literature and qualitative primary research using questionnaire and interview. The main goal of this work is to investigate influence and importance of entrepreneurs’ characteristics while starting a successful enterprise on the example of a local entrepreneur. A specific goal of this work is to distinguish idea and opportunity in order to create a conception about cost effectiveness of the investment of time, knowledge and money needed to start a successful business following careful market research. Research outcome on local entrepreneur shows the need of possession of entrepreneurial attributes in order to handle an enterprise in long term. This research was based on selection of a local entrepreneur. As such, it can serve as detailed description of dependence of entrepreneurial characteristics, properties and behaviors and implementation of theoretical frame in real life practice.
