The topic of this thesis is the role of supply chains and distribution networks in trade. This chapter presents the subject and objectives of the research, as well as the research methodology and data sources. The subject of this thesis is the role of supply chains and distribution networks in trade. The paper will explore the fundamental tasks of distribution and the points of view from which they are most often viewed, as well as define the concepts of distribution in the narrower and broader sense. Furthermore, the crucial functions of distribution channels, return channels and goals to be achieved by the choice of distribution channels will be defined. The types of distribution channels will be covered, the concepts of distribution networks will be explained, as well as the factors and stages of the formation of distribution networks. Research work refers to the analysis of examples of supply chains and trade distribution networks. In the research part of the paper, examples from practice will be investigated and analyzed - the supply chains and distribution networks of Coca-Cola and Jamnica. The listed companies were selected to give an insight into two completely different models of distribution networks and supply chains in the trade. The aim of the paper is, based on previous theoretical knowledge and analysis of practical examples, to show the importance of establishing an appropriate distribution network in the trade. The purpose of the work is, on the basis of the overall findings obtained through research, the supply chains and distribution networks of shops will be viewed from a contemporary global point of view.
