Video games represent one of the best examples of the use of multimedia. The video game industry is one of the fastest growing, precisely because of the optimization and development of multimedia. However, this industry has gone through a truly thorny path to reach such a status. The multimedia elements of a video game as a primary goal contribute to immersion, because video games today want to immerse the user in a virtual world. A successful video game today is considered to be one that can transfer the user from the real world to a virtual one and provide them with a complete, uninterrupted user experience. The purpose of this paper is to determine how the aforementioned is achieved, that is, how the development of multimedia and its optimization affects the growth of the video game industry. Text, sound and graphic multimedia elements form the basis of video games in the context of multimedia. It is precisely these elements that can create partiality for a video game among users - players. If one of the above elements is poorly integrated, the player may not want to play the video game, even though it may have a great plot. Like video games and their multimedia elements, the technology used in video games has advanced significantly. The development of technology has consequently had an impact on the development and optimization of multimedia used in video games. It all started with computers with basic actions, and today one can see incredible achievements of technology, virtual and augmented reality. It is considered that these technologies are the future of video games because they literally place the user in a virtual world. Although no primary research was conducted to achieve the goals of this paper, a large number of secondary researches were used. As video games are one of the forms of multimedia, difficulties were observed when making conceptual distinctions. It was noticed that there is a relatively small number of researches that connect multimedia and video games in the Croatian language, so it is considered an advantage to create a paper on this topic that combines the key aspects of multimedia. This paper could be useful to anyone interested in the application of multimedia in video games.
