Leaders in business organizations are most often considered managers of a certain organizational function and/or hierarchical level as team leaders. However, leaders and managers are not always on the same terms. They can differ by personal characteristics, but also by the sources of power and authority that are applied in their business. In addition to a high level of responsibility for business results and human resources, leaders also must know how to manage their employees. A successful leader must be able to effectively manage his employees to achieve organizational goals, but different characteristics of people do not require different ways of leadership. Regardless of whether it is authoritarian or democratic leadership, the leader must maintain a certain level of power and authority because these are the main characteristics of his function. Within the theoretical background of this thesis, the concept and functions of leadership will be defined, from which the power and authority of every successful leader derive. It will be shown all the sources of power and how to define the boundaries of authority to preserve a healthy business climate, but also ways to use them to motivate employees. It will also be explained the importance of understanding and applying the business discipline of employees to achieve successful business results. In the practical part of the work, research will be conducted on the application of leadership techniques for achieving power and authority in modern business. The goal of this research is to show the leadership profile of managers, that is, leaders in the real business world, and to deny which approaches work only in theory, and which are the most effective for a successful business and a satisfied workforce.
