Abstract
Europska središnja banka (ESB) održava stabilnost cijena u europodručju provođenjem financijske politike usmjerene na stabilnost eura kao službene valute europske monetarne unije. Osim toga, ESB doprinosi sigurnosti i pouzdanosti europskog bankovnog sustava. Uloga Europske središnje banke posebno je značajna u kriznim razdobljima kada svojim mjerama nastoji umanjiti negativne efekte vanjskih ili unutarnjih čimbenika na gospodarstvo eurozone. Pritom se postavlja pitanje koji su mehanizmi kojima se ESB koristi kako bi osigurala financijsku stabilnost zemalja Europske unije. Cilj ovog rada bio je istražiti na koji način djeluje i koje instrumente koristi Europska središnja banka kako bi ispunila svoje zadaće, kako je organizirana te analizirati njezinu financijsku poziciju. Slijedom navedenog, rad prikazuje različite aspekte Europske središnje banke, njezinu povijest, funkcije, organizacijsku strukturu, način djelovanja, ključne događaje i njezin financijski položaj. U radu je prikazano osnivanje ESB-a, značaj Ugovora iz Maastrichta za njezino osnivanje i ključne prekretnice u ranim godinama. Istaknuta je uloga ESB-a u održavanju stabilnosti cijena, formuliranju i provedbi monetarne politike te osiguravanju financijske stabilnosti unutar eurozone. Europska središnja banka svojim djelovanjem značajno utječe na gospodarstvo Europske unije provedbom aktivnosti koje utječu na stabilizaciju cijena i održavanje stabilnog financijskog sustava.
Abstract (english)
The European Central Bank (ECB) ensures price stability in the euro area by pursuing a monetary policy geared to the stability of the euro as the official currency of the European Economic and Monetary Union. In addition, the ECB contributes to the safety and reliability of the European banking system. The role of the European Central Bank is particularly important in times of crisis when its actions aim to reduce the negative impact of external or internal factors on the Eurozone economy. At the same time, the question arises as to what mechanisms the ECB uses to ensure the financial stability of the countries of the European Union. The aim of this paper was to examine how the European Central Bank operates and which instruments it uses to fulfil its tasks, how it is organised and to analyse its financial position. Accordingly, the paper presents various aspects of the European Central Bank, its history, tasks, organisational structure, functioning and main activities, as well as its financial situation. The paper presents the establishment of the ECB, the importance of the Maastricht Treaty for its creation and the main milestones in its early years. The role of the ECB in maintaining price stability, formulating, and implementing monetary policy and safeguarding financial stability in the euro area is highlighted. Through its activities, the European Central Bank has a significant impact on the economy of the European Union.
