Subject of this diploma work is the importance of culture in the business environment. The goal of this work is to define the culture, but also organisational culture in order to gain insight in what the intercultural communication is and examine engagement rules in business conduct between different cultures. The culture, being one of the essential components of every individual’s life, influences their life in whole, thereby their business conduct. The term culture intertangles with the term communication, where the culture of society also influences the communication ways of a particular individual. This work also explains the organisational culture and its significance in organisation’s business. The globalization opened the door to business activities outside the organisation’s home country. The intercultural communication has become more present, but it is of great importance to understand the obstacles in intercultural communication and how to successfully run business activities outside the home country. Different countries have different cultures and this fact emphasizes the importance of understanding cultural diversities, which will surely contribute to successful intercultural business activities. The chosen examples give insight of what is important in some countries’ cultures concerning business activities. This work explores rules defining greetings and handshake, holding business meetings, dressing codes for business meetings, socializing in Republic of China, India, Germany and France. Considering the cultural diversity of foreign business partners, it is important to be interculturally competent and understand the cultural differences to make business communication more successful.
