The main topic of this paper is piracy, or more precisely, piracy in the international market. This refers not to traditional piracy in the sense of sea piracy, but rather to piracy related to intellectual property, i.e. theft and misuse of the same. Intellectual property has become increasingly difficult to protect from so-called modern pirates (sometimes referred to as "pirates"), as the development of technologies like the internet has made piracy more widespread among the population. Anyone with internet access can illegally download content such as movies, video games, and TV series, or buy counterfeit products with just a click of a mouse. Such phenomena have created major problems not only at the local level but also at the global economic-legal level. Although we may associate piracy and piracy with negative connotations, there are certain ideas that such products and their sale and distribution actually have a positive impact on the value of the original. Of course, this is explained in more detail in the paper, but it is still not a sufficient reason to allow for the violation of intellectual property rights. To better protect intellectual property rights, countries have come together to harmonize their legal regulations. Technologies have also been developed to try to protect products from illegal downloading. Despite all obstacles, piracy still causes various problems in different markets, and the number of people who buy and use such products is decreasing relatively slowly. One factor that drives users to use illegal methods to consume a product is the price of the original. The paper analyzes practical examples that mainly show the negative aspects of piracy, but each of these negative parts has its own positive aspect. In the end, however, these negative parts prevail. The main conclusions of this paper would be: • Piracy is a global phenomenon that is not just an economic problem, • There is a correlation between the standard of living and the piracy rate.
