Abstract
Međunarodne pričuve uravnotežuju bilancu zemlje te pružaju sustav potpore nacionalnoj valuti i likvidnosti zemlje ukoliko nastupe neravnoteže prilikom međunarodnih financijskih transakcija. Monetarno zlato jedna je od sastavnica međunarodnih pričuva i kao takva povećava kapacitet zemlje za suočavanje s potencijalnim opasnostima koje prijete nacionalnoj valuti i međunarodnoj likvidnosti, kao i rizičnim operacijama na međunarodnim financijskim tržištima. More različite uloge u monetarnom sustavu, cijene su mu izrazito oscilirale, ali ono nikad nije u potpunosti izgubilo svoju vrijednost te mnoge zemlje značajan dio svojih međunarodnih pričuva čuvaju upravo u ovoj kovini. Istraživačko pitanje koje zahtijeva analizu potencijalne međuovisnosti makroekonomskih performansi deset zemalja najbogatijih zlatnim rezervama i njihovih sklonosti akumuliranju zlatnih rezervi oblikovano je na temelju provedenog istraživanja literature. Neovisno o povijesnim ulogama monetarnog zlata i o razinama potencijalnog rizika koje nosi ulaganje u zalihe zlata, Sjedinjene Američke Države, Njemačka, Italija, Francuska, Rusija, Kina, Švicarska, Japan, Indija i Nizozemska posljednjih pet godina čvrsto drže svoje mjesto na ljestvici kao deset zemalja najbogatijih zlatnim rezervama. I dok je određeni broj analiziranih zemalja tijekom promatranog razdoblja održavao kontinuitet u količini svojih zlatnih rezervi, neke su druge zemlje sustavno radile na progresivnom pojačavanju svojih zaliha monetarnog zlata. Republika Hrvatska dugo nije imala vlastite zalihe zlata i stoga se prilikom obavljanja transakcija koje zahtijevaju određene intervencije u vidu balansiranja neravnoteža na međunarodnim financijskim tržištima morala oslanjati na ostale instrumente koje ima u svojim međunarodnim pričuvama. International reserves balance a country's balance sheet and provide a system to support the national currency and liquidity in the event of imbalances in international financial transactions. Monetary gold is one of the components of international reserves and, as such, increases a country's ability to deal with potential threats to the national currency and international liquidity, as well as risky operations in international financial markets. Throughout history, gold has played... More various roles in the monetary system, with its prices being subject to significant fluctuations, but it has never completely lost value, which has led many countries to hold a significant part of their international reserves in this precious metal. The research question, which requires an analysis of the potential interdependence between the macroeconomic performance of the top ten gold-rich countries and their tendency to accumulate gold reserves, was formulated based on a review of the existing literature. Regardless of the historical role of monetary gold and the level of potential risk associated with investing in gold reserves, the United States of America, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, China, Switzerland, Japan, India and the Netherlands have firmly maintained their place among the top ten gold-rich countries. While a number of the countries under review have kept their gold reserves constant during the period under review, some others have worked systematically to gradually increase their monetary gold reserves.
