It is well known that the position of women in relation to men has been very different throughout history, which is also reflected in today's business world. Women often face challenges related to the perception of competences for starting a business, but numerous examples have proven how successful women can be in the business world. Entrepreneurship as a term is characterised by creativity, innovation, organisation and many other traits that are well developed in women. Nevertheless, when women choose the path of entrepreneurship, they face many challenges and threats, such as balancing personal and business life, difficult access to financial resources, insufficient support from the environment and insufficient opportunities to network with other women entrepreneurs. Various strategies and initiatives aimed at supporting women in entrepreneurship are helping them, and the Strategy for the Development of Women's Entrepreneurship is currently active in Croatia. According to GEM research and data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the unfavourable position of women compared to men in the business world has been proven. Regardless of the job, women are paid significantly less than their male colleagues and are also in the minority when it comes to the ownership structure of the company. Nevertheless, more and more women are deciding to start an entrepreneurial business today. They are struggling with entrenched stereotypes and gender inequality, and society is becoming increasingly sensitised to this issue. The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of current knowledge about women in entrepreneurship and to analyse the perception of the aforementioned topic.
