Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) are one of the most significant economic products of globalization, so it is not surprising that many countries are trying their best to convince investors to invest in their countries and thus help build and strengthen the economy. Developed countries have immediately recognized the benefits of FDI and consider them an important channel for activating their own investment potential essential for the development of the economy. FDI brings a lot of benefits to the receiving country such as increase in productivity, employment and wage, technology transfer, training and specialization of domicile management and many others. With the use of transparent and efficient regulatory measures as well as a clearly defined country development strategy, the potential negative effects of FDI can be corrected and foreign investments leveraged for economic progress. The Republic of Croatia has always been a pretext for foreign investors and it has been the ideal investment destination, which was supported by the European Union statistics which said that Republic of Croatia has been among the better countries. However, statistics are not always the right measure of the real state, which was shown in the analysis in this paper. The paper analyzes the trends of foreign direct investment from the beginning of 1993 until the first quarter of 2017 and it has clearly shown that there are certain problems, which still exist, that need to be resolved in order for the Republic of Croatia to fulfill the goal by the end of 2020. and become one of the top 30 destinations for investments.
