Prediction of future demand is a process that determines which products, when, where and in which amounts are needed. This can become a competitive advantage that will enable companies to simplify cost structure, improve customer service levels, product availability on the market, and availability of finished goods in the warehouse. Prediction is important in almost all business processes. A company that wants to be effective or meet customer requirements while at the same time achieving cost reduction needs to be able to predict future demand well. Predicting future demand trends is an important prerequisite for the ability to efficiently fulfill customer needs in future timeframes and enables companies to focus on more efficient resources and reduce the material needs of their business as a result of better resource use. Data obtained from forecasting demand play one of the fundamental roles of company business plans and an important part of the proper functioning of supply chains and demand. In the first, theoretical part of the labour, the basic areas and principles of supply chain management have been clarified and the topic of demand forecasting is addressed in detail by describing prediction characteristics, factors influencing demand forecasting, forecasting steps and also time horizon, accuracy and methods of forecasting demand. In the second, practical part of the labour we have analyzed demand forecasting in ceramic tiles industry on the concrete example of the Hungarian company Zalakeramia. The labour explores the way the company operates, production technology, company supplies, and the ways and methods of forecasting demand in the company as well as the software that the company uses in planning and forecasting demand.
