Tourism is one of the most important sources of income in many countries, and the development of a tourist destination has become a multidisciplinary issue that is viewed from different perspectives but also by different target groups. The basic division for tourists tracking certainly are domestic and foreign tourists. Although the number of trips and expense of domestic residents compared to foreign tourists makes a smaller share in tourist spending by most states and does not bring new "money" to the country, the retention of domestic tourists at destinations within borders ensures that the money intended for tourist spending also "retains" at the destination. On the example of Croatia, it is possible to conclude that domestic tourists are recognized as an important segment of tourist demand, so continuous monitoring of the local population's tourist activities started in 2007 by the Institute for Tourism and the Central Statistics Office. Data from 2013 year show that every other resident of Croatia was at least once a year on a multiple-day private trip. In addition to functional information on previus journeys, for the successful development of tourist destinations in relation to the target group of domestic tourists it is extremely important to understand the attitudes, motives and expectations of domestic tourists from tourist destinations. With this aim in this paper, on the example of domestic tourists in Croatia, we will analyze expectations, motives, travel attitudes as a basis for managing the pleasure of domestic tourists. For the purpose of this scientific work, we will use secondary data on the attitudes of domestic tourists, for 2017, on a representative sample of 4.000 respondents aged from 15 to 65 years old. In addition to descriptive analysis, we will conduct segmentation within a group of domestic tourists (segments profiled with motives and expectations) and described by socio-demographic variables.
