The PhD thesis thematizes development of a model for measuring students’ self-employment intentions and career choice after completion of formal education. The main aim of this study is to create and design the XP Model based on assumptions that reflect existing accumulated theoretical and empirical knowledge about factors (independent variables) affecting the career choice of younger demographics (dependent variable). This thesis makes a contribution to the subject area related to examination of self-employment intentions (entrepreneurial intentions) in Croatia and conducting longitudinal research on younger demographics. The career choice is a future decision by the student population of graduates, in this paper the sample (n=426), and the respondents were faced with two choices – to become self-employed or employed (working for someone else). The structure of the thesis relies on systematic introduction of elements of the XP Model with comprehensive methodological explanations. The suggested XP model enables directing behavior of all interested participants, and the aim of the model is to increase the number of self-employed persons in economy. XP Model is suitable for clarifying predictions of young population (students) in reaching decisions about their career choice, and based on elements relevant for judgment of student’s intentions connected to future career choice. This thesis provides the methodological basis multiply useful for: a) methodological framework for future related research, b) exact knowledge about students’ self-employment intentions and c) guidelines for implementation of activities which would encourage youth self-employment
