The modern market of futures contracts as we know them today has been developing for many years, during this period contracts were developed for almost all types of commodities and resources, including cryptocurrency. The development of the futures market, as well as the growing number of cryptocurrency users, led to the emergence of cryptocurrency futures contracts. This paper tries to investigate the market of Futures contracts on cryptocurrencies, which is one of the newer ones and is achieving a significant increase in popularity. The benefit of futures contracts stands out in transparency and availability. Considering that it is still underdeveloped in Croatia, the market for futures contracts is particularly highlighted to show its potential and the opportunities it offers. The introducing of a new regulatory framework for the area of investing in crypto assets (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation – MiCA) attracts new investors who have not had the courage to engage in this type of trading until now and raises the trading conditions of these contracts to a higher level. In this paper, the basic characteristics of cryptocurrencies are presented to made it easier to understand the content od the paper. As two of the world’s most famous cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ether are taken as examples of those that can be traded through futures contracts. Every cryptocurrency futures contract is standardized and must contain basic information about the name, price, trading time and much more. Trading futures contracts on cryptocurrencies is possible through online platforms, several od which are presented in the last part od the paper. Trading futures requires understanding and knowledge of what one wants to invest in, therefore investors must be well and timely informed to be able to react in time and achieve the desired results.
