Special importance for sustainable development in urban areas has highlighted the increasing number of population. Globalization has resulted in an increased concentration around the cities. The progress of technology that increasingly replaces human labor and therefore reduces demand for labor in agricultural activities. The problem of urbanization is resolved in various ways , by adequate spatial planning, rational distribution of resources, optimum use of technology, environmentally friendly and socially responsible business, planning of tourism development and city management and co-operation between institutions, etc. Quality needs to be maintained and is necessary to provide a satisfying standard of living in urban areas and encourage the citizens to participate in city management, especially to sustainable and responsible development. The European Union is an advocate of sustainable development and co-finances its members various sustainable projects that will improve the quality of life of citizens in various European areas, as well as equal development, that will also increase employment, technological development and reduce environmental pollution, etc. Present are also initiatives such as smart cities and creative cities that innovativly and technologically provide solutions various city problems, such as traffic jams, light, noise, air and environmental pollution.
