One of the foundations of achieving and promoting sustainable development, as well as continuous social and economic advancement, is environmental care and awareness. Changing business policies and adapting strategies in order to accomplish environmental goals has led to the fulfillment of certain prerequisites for achieving competitive advantage. The implementation of environmental accounting allows companies to identify, measure and report information on environmentally responsible business activities. The importance of environmental accounting has been recognized on a global scale. As a result of the implementation of environmental accounting, environmental reporting became legally required. The implementation of environmental accounting results in environmental information which has, along with the social aspect, become a part of the company non-financial report, as well as a component in creating a comprehensive overview of a company's business activities. The subject dissertation explores the implementation of environmental accounting in quoted companies in the Republic of Croatia which are obliged to carry out non-financial reporting, in accordance with the European Union Directive and the Accounting Act. It analyses the manner in which companies report environmental information, as well as the share of environmental information in the quoting companies' financial reports from 2017, focusing on the manufacturing industry as the one with the most significant environmental impact. Given that the reports present a company's operation and business activity, it is no longer enough to simply specify environmental information. A more successful company implements environmental accounting and creates reports with environmental information that is quantified and explained in detail.
