Education is process that begins at an early age of the child and lasts a lifetime, and the educational system has great significance to the development of the society of a country. High quality and professional staff ensures growth and development which is necessary to the Republic of Croatia. The education system is divided into four levels, early and pre – school, elementary, high school and higher education. Primary education is compulsory for all. Croatian education system has a long history, and according to some sources it even goes back the 10th century. The key importance in order to develop the country competitiveness is found in formal education. The Croatian economy, for progress, requires highly educated and professional staff of people who are willing to change jobs and to do program of lifelong education. However, Croatia has a problem of unemployed profiles of people which is currently falling. In addition to questions related to the unemployed profile people, it comes to the appearance of so – called. NEET group, it marks unemployed young people, who are not educated, not trained. Problems of NEET groups are trying to be solved through a variety of strategies and programs that are under the management of the European Union. Education for sustainable development is, one might say, one of the projects of the European Union in order to warn people on the importance of protecting the environment and in this way to care for the country's economy and its progress in the global market. Growth and development are features that are influenced by various factors. Progress in creating indicators of the education system in made by UNESCO in the 1980s. The phenomenon that occurs is called Scandinavian education, and speaks of the Scandinavian educational system in which are allocated significant funds for education. Financing of education in the Republic of Croatia so far has been in the form of centralized or less centralized funding. Education can be considered as an investment and as an expense because it is already common knowledge that education requires expenditures. The fundamental feature of the education system is teaching.
