The capital market is a financial market that is a mediator between the securities vendor and the investor in the same. Thus, the capital market is the place where securities supply and demand can meet. However, capital market is important for those investors who want to make long-term returns on investment in securities. However, it is significant solely for those investors seeking to obtain long-term returns on their investments in securities. In order to be able to do business in the capital market, it is necessary to know its structure, functions and purpose. Therefore, long-term securities are traded on the capital market, ie those with a maturity of more than one year. One of the important factors in the thematic area of the capital market is the stock market. Stock exchanges are the most widely spread securities markets in the world. On the stock exchanges securities can be bought and sold. Securities with a maturity of more than one year include stocks and bonds. Furthermore, there are many types of stocks and bonds that differ in properties and characteristics. In this final paper, emphasis will be placed on the functioning of the capital market in the Republic of Croatia and on the trading of stocks and bonds. Zagreb Stock Exchange will be presented and described as the most widespread form of securities trading in the Republic of Croatia. Accordingly, an analysis of the trading of shares and bonds on the capital market in the Republic of Croatia will be made for the period 2014-2018.
