Entrepreneurship presents an opportunity developing personal and professional skills and competencies. Entering the world of entrepreneurship, the entrepreneur encounters various problems which are usually perceived as opportunities for learning and gaining experience. People have been entrepreneurs even before any conceptually definition of the term entrepreneur was set. The entrepreneur was and still is primarily described as an innovator who sets goals and is effective and efficient. However, there are different stereotypes that can be related to entrepreneur work. One of the most used stereotypes is that entrepreneurs are born and not made by their experience and education. One of the goals of this paper is to reject that stereotype. Being entrepreneur is not easy, despite all the advantages, there are many disadvantages as well. Being an entrepreneur often means to live 24/7 with the job and not being able to balance private and business life. Despite of that, most of the entrepreneurs would not change their career for another job because being entrepreneur means having an opportunity to self-manage the time and make own decisions in professional life. Although it would be hard to find two entrepreneurs with the same skills, knowledge, competencies and ambitions, there are still some characteristics which all entrepreneurs have in common. The purpose of this paper is to introduce characteristics, skills and behavior that help entrepreneurs become successful, recognize, and seize opportunities in their environment, and solve problems in more innovative way. There are many capable and talented people in the Republic of Croatia who contribute to the development of the economy with their efforts and work. Some of them will be introduced in this paper. Although with different trades all of them possesses characteristics and skills that are common to almost every successful entrepreneur.
