International trade faces various challenges and changes in the market in general. A major change occurred with the development of a new economic paradigm; sharing economy. The sharing economy is based on the exchange of goods and services that may or may not be paid for in cash. The concept of the sharing economy is based on mutual trust and good interpersonal relations. The development of technology led to the creation of a new economy. With the development of the Internet, the sharing economy is becoming more popular and present in today's world and will certainly continue to develop in the future. One of the most important factors in the development of the Internet and digitization in general is globalization, which changes the world around us and affects our lives and the quality of it. Development of technologies, increasing environmental pollution, global recession and man's desire for community are some of the factors that have influenced the development of the sharing economy. There are four different forms of sharing economy: Franchiser, Principal, Chaperone and Gardener. Each of these forms has different characteristics and ways of doing business. The sharing economy leads to the creation of community, environmental progress, lower prices, flexible working hours and maximum utilization of the capacity of a particular product or service. It also has certain negative sides, such as instability of personal income, lack of education and advancement in the business sense, low level of employee protection, etc. There are different types of sharing economy that operate in different countries, some of them are even popular in Croatia. The aim of this paper is to explain how globalization and digitization have led to the sharing economy, how and in what way it is changing the international market, to present examples of the sharing economy in the world and in Croatia, and what advantages and disadvantages the sharing economy brings.
