Analysis of financial statements seeks to use quantitative financial data to enable the assessment of performance and security of a company's operations. When performing the analysis of financial statements, it is possible to use the following tools: comparative financial statements, structural financial statements, financial indicators and specialized analyses. Comparative financial statements are made by horizontally analysing items of financial statements over time, and structural financial statements vertically analyse a share of each item compared to a selected base. Financial indicators put individual items of financial statements in ratios to be able to draw additional conclusions about the business – its liquidity, solvency, debt, profitability and cost-effectiveness. The data required for analysis is contained in core financial statements, primarily in the balance sheet and the income statement. The balance sheet shows an overview of total assets, liabilities and equity on a given day, thus showing the financial position of a company. The income statement shows the financial performance of a company for a certain period by showing its income and expenses by categories of operations, financial and other. On the example of joint stock company Atlantic Grupa, an analysis of financial statements for the period from 2019 to 2021 was conducted, for which the comparative and structural financial statements were selected in the analysis of the balance sheet and the income statement – on which a calculation of five groups of indicators was also based on. The cash flow statement is considered as well. The company has been operating at a profit for all three years, but with a trend of decline and then re-growth, which coincides with global economic trends imposed by the out of the ordinary circumstances of the epidemic. A closer analysis led to a conclusion about the stability and strength of the company, which kept it financially successful even through difficult business circumstances.
