The focus of this paper is on the possibilities of obtaining financial resources for the development of entrepreneurial ideas, with an emphasis on the use of credit as a source of finance. The paper examines the role of banks in financing business start-ups in the Republic of Croatia. The offer and lending options are analyzed, compared with other financing methods and an insight is given into the current lending conditions of selected banking institutions. The research has shown that the range of credit products for new businesses can be reduced to two elements with regard to the establishment of a new business or the plans of a young entrepreneur. These are the program of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development „Entrepreneurship of youth, women and beginners“ and the program of Erste Bank „Entrepreneurial starter“. The programs differ in some important points, such as the repayment period of the loan, the maximum duration of business activity to receive a loan, the type of loan repayment, etc. All but two banks in Croatia are included in the program of the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Development can also grant loans independently, and the loan model depends on the amount to be granted, security conditions and similar factors. The Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development's program started in 2024 and has significantly improved the range of loan products for new ventures. During the pandemic, access to credit for new businesses was difficult and banks tightened credit conditions. However, the economic recovery and the improvement of the situation in the banking sector allowed banks to market new credit products such as the above-mentioned program.
